Stockholm on Foot
I love, love, love city walking, and miss living in London, where you never quite know what architectural wonder or street busker is going to meet you around the next corner, and cafes and bars spill out everywhere, inviting you in to relax for a while. I can’t wait to be back in Europe, where I can spend days exploring Stockholm and other nearby cities.
I’ve never actually been to Stockholm, so I’m keen to take some time to look into its pavement pounding possibilities.
Taryn from Happiest Outdoors?!
My first google search brought me to a post from my favourite local hiker! I have copies of both of Taryn’s books and often use her trip reports to plan for our backpacking trips.
Randomly, Taryn has posted a detailed Self-Guided Walking Tour of Stockholm and her first paragraph sums up my surprise:
If you’ve been following my blog for awhile you know that I’m pretty much an expert on hiking, the Vancouver area, Iceland and Nepal. So you might be surprised to hear that I’ve put together the ultimate self-guided walking tour of Stockholm. Wait, what? Stockholm? In Sweden? Yup!

Here is the detailed google map of Taryn’s suggested route, including the sights it covers. It looks like a great introduction to Stockholm.
More Walking Routes
This article gives 9 walking routes with tons of detail. They cover different areas and sights of Stockholm.
There are some great ideas here, and I’ll plan some of my own routes in advance, based on things I want to see. But I’m also looking forward to just getting lost in this gorgeous city and letting the discoveries happen…

… Or by Bike
Sweden is extremely bike friendly, and UVic practicum students last year used bikes and e-scooters to get around the city. This will be a fun way to switch things up and get further afield. This article has some good suggestions on where to explore by bike.
