Powerpoint! Who knew?!

Well today was a fun lesson. I came away feeling positive and exited – quite the contrast to last week’s lecture! After my somewhat negative last post, I need to clarify that, although I personally hate social media, I’m not remotely a technophobe and really enjoy the aspects of our digital age that can work for us. I love Canva, enjoy dabbling in WordPress, and am always keen to add new tools to my repertoire – last semester it was Prezi!

I was really interested in the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning in Michael’s lecture and did a bit more googling around it. I can see this influencing my approach to teaching, particularly when considering UDL. This is a neat little summarizing video:

More generally, I thought about how important it is to help kids establish a confident relationship with technology, where they see it as a tool that they exert control over. I would want to take a positive approach to digital literacy with my students, where we explore the fun and creative side of technology in various projects, but then use this to bring in relevant lessons around digital identity, online safety, professional communication, etc.

And Powerpoint looks really promising for classroom use! I have used it a gazillion times in the past to give presentations, but had no idea that it could be so much fun. I’m going to keep this reflection short as I’m keen to go off now and explore how I can incorporate Powerpoint into one of my inquiry posts…
